Tomorrow we are celebrating a year of life, which was not the prognosis for my child at birth. But God has done wonders, and today one of them is Adrian. We hug you and are now going to get ready to party!

Hydrocephalus Support

Hydrocephalus means ‘water on the brain’ and is an excessive amount of fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. In some countries hydrocephalus can often be overlooked, resulting in grotesque swelling of the cranium to 2 -5 times its normal size.

The initial objective of F.R.O.D.O.’s Hydrocephalus Support Centre was to ensure that all children in Romania born with or developing hydrocephalus receive access to appropriate care. Thanks to the support of Codman Johnson and Johnson we secured a free supply of the main device – a shunt, used to treat the condition.
Working in partnership with Romanian neurosurgeons, F.R.O.D.O. supports the improvement of early diagnosis, medico-surgical treatment, recuperation and socio-familial insertion of children with hydrocephalus. By devising and delivering appropriate training to neurosurgeons and others and by identifying, where necessary, essential equipment needed to ensure high standards of treatment F.R.O.D.O. has provided intervention which has saved some children’s lives.

We have established an alert system throughout maternity hospitals and informed all appropriate medical professionals and places of medical treatment about the Support Centre to ensure children in need of care are now identified as soon as possible. F.R.O.D.O. have also developed education and awareness of the condition in Romania by printing a number of publications and designing a valuable and informative website www.hidrocefalie-med-info.org to provide information and support for families and professionals.

We are also working on other neurological conditions. To read more about it please
