In the 90’s, Romania was home to 50% of all paediatric AIDS cases in all the European countries combined.
The Romanian government was not properly screening blood and shared needles. Also, at that time, many Romanian doctors thought that transfusions provided a “pick me up” for children who were anaemic, feeling weak, tired or had a cold
They were looked after by one of our charity partners who have given up their comfortable homes in the West to care for HIV positive children.
